Tokyo Auto Salon 2023 to Showcase Subaru Levorg STI Prototype

Subaru will showcase two STI-equipped prototypes at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January 2023, along with three race cars and two Boost Gear concept crossovers. The first prototype is an STI-equipped Impreza, which will be showcased in Japanese spec with STI parts for the first time. However, it is unlikely to offer any performance gains as Subaru does not plan to sell an STI version of the current WRX. Instead, the prototype is expected to be based on the Impreza RS, which debuted with a stiffer chassis and a 2.5-liter Boxer engine with 182 horsepower.

The second STI prototype, a Levorg STI Sport # (Sport Sharp) Prototype wagon, will be more comprehensive and has already been revealed in a teaser shot. The prototype is based on the Levorg STI Sport R EX trim and is expected to offer enhanced stable handling and a premium driving experience. Although it may be touted as a 'complete STI car,' it is unlikely to feature any performance gains. The prototype is likely to retain the 2.4-liter turbocharged Boxer four-pot shared with the WRX sedan, producing 271 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque sent to all four corners.

The Tokyo Auto Salon will take place from January 13 to 15, 2023, in Chiba, Japan, and is expected to showcase exciting exhibits, including Subaru's prototypes and other cars. In addition to the STI prototypes, Subaru will also showcase three race cars and two Boost Gear concept crossovers, promising an impressive range of vehicles at the event. Stay tuned for more updates on the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon 2023.

Subaru has exciting plans for the Tokyo Auto Salon in January 2023, showcasing a range of prototypes and race cars. The Japanese automaker will display two STI-equipped prototypes: an Impreza and a Levorg Sport # prototype. The Impreza will make its Japanese spec debut with STI parts, likely limited to cosmetic upgrades. Meanwhile, the Levorg Sport # prototype, based on the Levorg STI Sport R EX trim, promises enhanced stable handling and a premium driving experience, although it may not see any performance gains.

Subaru is also set to display two Boost Gear crossovers, the recently-revealed Rex, and the all-new Crosstrek. With low horsepower and torque figures, the Rex is aimed at frugal city driving, but the Boost Gear Concept should prove more exciting, featuring off-road body cladding, roof rails, and other adventure-inspired accessories.

In addition, Subaru will showcase three race cars, including the BRZ GT300, which competed in the Super GT 2022 series championship. The WRX NBR Challenge will compete in the NBR Challenge, a part of the Nurburgring 24 Hour, in 2023. Meanwhile, the WRX Rally Challenge 2023 is set to participate in the Japanese rally competition next year.

The Tokyo Auto Salon, which takes place from January 13 to 15, 2023, in Chiba, Japan, promises exciting exhibits from various automakers, including Subaru. Visitors can expect a wide range of displays, from Liberty Walk's world-first widebody Ferrari F40 to the BMW booth's giant kidney grille-focused design.
