Mugen to Showcase Honda ZR-V Concept and Civic Type R at Tokyo Auto Salon

Japanese tuner Mugen has teased its two modified cars, a Honda ZR-V and a Civic Type R, to be showcased at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January 2023. Mugen's version of the ZR-V is a family crossover featuring purely cosmetic changes, including side skirts, new grille, front bumper, new mirror caps, and larger wheels. The quad-exit exhaust and tailgate applique give it an impression of sportiness, with numerous decals to add to the look.

Mugen also hinted at a surprise, unveiling images of the ZR-V but not of the Civic Type R. Although Mugen's last Type R was the previous-generation version, it is rumored that the new Type R could receive an understated styling that fits the current model's FL5 design. Still, the changes are likely to be purely cosmetic, with no expected performance upgrades. The ZR-V and Civic Type R will be presented at the Tokyo Auto Salon, taking place from January 13-15, 2023.

The Japanese tuner's work on the Civic hatchback in the past suggested that Mugen could create a more pleasant creation that matches the current model's understated styling. The Civic Type R may not get any performance upgrades, similar to the previous Mugen CTR, which shed some weight but no increase in power. Car enthusiasts can expect Mugen's surprises for the 2023 Type R to be revealed next month.
